Multi-resonant amplification in a trapped spinor condensate — •Gebremedhn Gebreyesus, Philipp Hyllus, and Luis Santos — Institut für Theor. Physik, Appelstr. 2, Leibniz Universität Hannover
We study theoretically spin changing collisions in a spinor condensate prepared initially in the mF=0 state. Due to the interplay between quadratic Zeeman effect, spin-changing collisions, and trap energy, the spin transfer into mF=± 1 presents an intriguing dependence on the applied magnetic field. In particular, we show that the spin-transfer velocity reflects the instability of the corresponding Bogoliubov modes. Contrary to the case of an homogeneous gas, the spin transfer velocity is characterized by the appearance of marked resonances as a function of the applied magnetic field. We comment on the relevance of these results for recent experiments performed in Berkeley and in Hannover.
