DOAS- measurements of CH4 and CO2 in the Infrared — •Markus Woyde and Ulrich Platt — Institut für Umweltphysik, Im Neuenheimer Feld 229, 69120 Heidelberg

Methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) are the two most important anthropogenic greenhouse gases contributing directly 0.48 Wm2 and 1.66 Wm2 to the total anthropogenic radiative forcing of 2.63 Wm2 by wellmixed greenhouse gases. An accurate prediction of the future climate requires a good understanding of the sources and sinks of these gases which heat the planet by trapping infrared radiation. Therefore a ground-based instrument is in development to compare measured small scale data with satellite-based measurements. First measurements of these trace gases in the atmosphere are presented. The evaluation of Slant Column Densities is done with the help of the Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS), in particular with Iterative Maximum A Posteriori (IMAP)-DOAS.
