Modelling the artificial radionuclides transport in the River Yenisei — •Tatiana Semizhon1, 2 and Eckehard Klemt11Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten, Weingarten, Germany — 2International Sakharov Environmental University, Minsk, Belarus

During expeditions on the Yenisei conducted between 1999 and 2006 sediment cores were taken at different distances downstream of Pu-producing nuclear reactors (30 km - 1520 km). The gamma analysis of the sediment samples revealed the long-living artificial radionuclides Cs-137, different Eu-isotopes and Co-60.

The transport of radionuclides along the river and the accumulation processes were analyzed using two mathematical models: (1) the longitudinal model characterizing the activity concentration in the water column, in the suspended matter and in the top layer of the sediment; and (2) the vertical model describing the distribution of the activity (exchangeable and fixed form) in the sediment profile.

Both models were applied to the Yenisei sediments with respect to Co-60 and Cs-137. For this purpose main hydrological parameters like water discharge and cross sectional area, as well as particle settling velocity, distribution coefficient Kd and other parameters had to be estimated. The published data on the radionuclides discharges to the river water was used as boundary condition.

The problems of parameters estimation and the modelling results will be shown and discussed.
