Beauty and Charm production in DIS using semileptonic electron decays — •ramoona shehzadi — Physikalisches Institut, University of Bonn

Heavy flavor production in ep collisions using semileptonic decays into electrons and muons is a central topic of research at HERA. In one of the analyses recently published by the ZEUS collaboration for beauty production in the photoproduction, a likelihood method was used for the signal extraction using semileptonic electron decays. This analysis was based on HERA I data. A similar kind of approach is intended to be used for analysis of HERA II data, not only in the photoproduction but also in the DIS regime. The increased statistics and possibility of measuring the life time information because of the presence of the Micro Vertex Detector (MVD) in HERA II data will also help to increase the precision of the measurement. This talk will focus on the ongoing DIS analysis. Results based on a subsample of HERA II data for DIS selection, identification of semileptonic electron candidates and extraction of signal will be presented.
