Measurement of the top quark mass using the B-hadron decay length — •Ewelina Kosior, Maria Aldaya Martin, and Katerina Lipka — DESY Hamburg Notkestrasse 85 22607 Hamburg, Deutschland
Due to the high center of mass energy of the LHC a large amount of tt pairs will be produced already within the first few pb−1 of integrated luminosity. This will allow for a measurement of the top quark pair production cross section as well as a first measurement of the top quark mass. Both provide important tests of the Standard Model and are necessary for the study of effects beyond the Standard Model. In this talk a method of measurement of the top quark mass using the B-hadron decay length at the CMS experiment is presented. This method doesn’t depend on the jet energy scale but relies on precise reconstruction of primary and secondary vertices. Here the reconstruction of the secondary vertex as the issue of the most importance for this method is discussed.
