Soft muon simulation with ATLFAST-II — •Muhammad Alhroob, Ian Brock, and Elizabeth Nuncio Quiroz — University of Bonn, Bonn, Germany
For the ATLAS detector at the LHC, Monte-Carlo generators will play a major role in a better understanding of signal events, predictions of the distributions of observables, determination of event selection efficiency and the estimation of backgrounds. Besides the event generators, Monte-Carlo detector simulation packages with both, fast and full simulation, will help us to understand and model detector effects. A new and improved version of the ATLAS fast simulation package (ATLFAST II) is now available, which is around 10 to 100 faster than the full simulation. ATLFAST II has to be validated and compared to the full detector simulation using GEANT4. Soft µ tagging is one of the standard b-tagging algorithms, which uses muons with a low transverse momentum, pT. The kinematics of the soft µ, its b-tagging efficiency, the light jet rejection and the fake rate are compared between ATLFAST II and a full GEANT4 simulation. Results will be presented in this talk.
