Early search for Supersymmetry with ATLAS in dilepton final states with focus on low pT electrons — •Tuan Vu Anh, Volker Büscher, and Marc Hohlfeld — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Bonn

Supersymmetry is one of the two principal physics programs of the LHC, beside the Higgs searches. Despite of the usual small branching ratio, any lepton presence in the supersymmetry final state always reduces significantly the large hadronic background at the LHC. Leptons can originate from decays of gauginos and sleptons, which in turn can be produced directly and/or via squarks and gluinos. This talk presents a supersymmetry search with two electrons in the final state with the first 10 (100) pb−1 of data that will be collected by the ATLAS collaboration.

The focus of this talk is on analysis strategies for the early ATLAS data. This includes studies to measure electron reconstruction and identification efficiencies at low transverse momentum using the J/ψ and Υ resonances using the standard tag-and-probe technique. This momentum regime is typical for the relatively soft leptons from supersymmetry decays, but difficult to cover with Z boson decays because of its high mass and comparatively smaller cross section.
