Early Supersymmetry Searches in the 1-Lepton Channel with the Atlas Detector — •Keith Edmonds, Volker Büscher, and Marc Hohlfeld — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Bonn

One of the most important goals for ATLAS at the LHC is the search for new physics beyond the standard model. Supersymmetry is one of the favored theories for discovery at the LHC. This talk will focus on early Supersymmetry searches for squark and gluino production. Supersymmetric cascade decays typically have large missing transverse energy due to the presence of undetected neutralinos. It is expected that searches in the final state of ’multiple jets + missing transverse energy + e / µ’ will provide excellent prospects for early discovery of most supersymmetric models. The techniques used to identify such a signal within a realistic experimental environment are discussed.

One of the main aspects for the initial experimental phase is data quality. Different techniques to identify and remove fake objects or events with fake missing transverse energy will be discussed. Additional complications caused by miscalibrated objects due to an imperfect detector description and methods to solve these issues within the analysis will be presented. The emphasis will be on how these complications impact Supersymmetry searches.
