Measurement of Z +jet events and determination of the Z→ νν background for SUSY searches — •Janet Dietrich, Renaud Brunelier, Sascha Caron, and Gregor Herten — Physikalisches Institut, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg

At the ATLAS experiments events with jets and missing transverse momentum show a large discovery potential for many SUSY models. To find new physics in these channels we have to understand and estimate our Standard Model backgrounds first. One of the dominant irreducible backgrounds for searches with missing transverse energy is Z→ νν + jets. We will present a method for the estimation of the Z→ νν background for SUSY searches, including studies of lepton effiencies and acceptance corrections.
To predict Z→ νν events Z→ ł+ł control samples are used as baseline method. We have also begun to investigate background determination using W→ ł+ν and γ + jets events which have a much larger cross section than Z→ ł+ł events and allow studies for the first data with larger control sample statistics.
