Search for heavy charged vector bosons in leptonic decay channels — •Walter Bender, Thomas Hebbeker, and Kerstin Hoepfner — RWTH Aachen University, III. Physikalisches Institut A
The study is searching for heavy vector bosons which are predicted by many left-right symmetric models. The reconstruction of high energy leptons and a good understanding of missing transverse energy offers the possibility to reconstruct the transverse mass distribution of signal and background. Several potential uncertainties for the discovery and exclusion are discussed. The most important backgrounds are modeled by data driven methods and compared to their Monte Carlo simulation. In the electron and the muon channel a combined sensitivity limit for exclusion und discovery is calculated at a center of mass energy of 14 TeV. This leads to a high discovery potential at the TeV scale in the first 100 pb−1.
