Development of a Prototype GEM Readout for a TPC at Siegen and the HV System of the Large Prototype TPC for the ILC — •Bakul Gaur, Peter Buchholz, Ivor Fleck, Wolfgang Walkowiak, and Ulrich Werthenbach — Siegen University, Experimental Particle Physics, Watler-Flex-Str. 3, 57072 Siegen, Germany

A small prototype time projection chamber (TPC) with pad readout is being built at Siegen. The prototype uses multiple gas electron multiplier (GEM) structures for gas amplification. The pad readout is connected to a data acquisition (DAQ) system that allows high-resolution sampling (4 ns) of the detector signals, using time interleaved flash analog-to-digital converters. The functioning of the system has already been pretested with a similar setup using a test chamber. Preliminary results of some of the measurements will be presented.

The EUDET and the LCTPC collaboration have developed a large prototype TPC to study and compare the various gas amplification techniques for a future ILC TPC. The large prototype is currently being operated at DESY in the test beam area. Such a detector requires careful control and monitoring of the electrode voltages and the drift fields inside the detector. The University of Siegen in collaboration with DESY have developed the HV system for the detector prototype. The system features a DOOCS server for controlling the HV devices and a JDDD graphic user interface. An overview of the system will also be presented.
