An accurate measurement of electrons and photons over a wide rapidity range is essential for many physics analyses in ATLAS. In this contribution, we will present a first study within the ATLAS collaboration of the electron reconstruction in the forward calorimeters (without tracker devices) covering the rapidity range: |η| > 2.5. We discuss the potential of ATLAS for measuring these electrons.
