Analisys of electromagnetic showers in CALICE Analog Hadron Calorimeter prototype (AHCAL) — •Sergey Morozov1,2, Erika Garutti2, and Niels Meyer21University of Hamburg, 20355 Hamburg — 2DESY, 22607 Hamburg

The expected International Linear Collider (ILC) physics program demands a clear separation of jets (W and Z decays) which requires the energy resolution to be 30%√E or better. One approach is the application of the Particle Flow reconstruction algorithms (PFA).

In order to develop this the CALICE collaboration has constructed a highly granular (≈ 8000 channels) analog hadron calorimeter prototype (AHCAL) based on scintillator tiles with individual silicon photo-multiplier (SiPM) read out. It has been successfully operated in testbeam experiments at DESY, CERN and FNAL. Pure electromagnetic showers in the AHCAL induced directly with electron and positron beams at various energies (10-50 GeV) are a unique tool for testing the calorimeter response for low and high energy depositions in the tiles as well as for calibrating individual tiles and the overall detector energy resolution and linearity.

The analysis of electromagnetic showers in AHCAL is used to demonstrate the detector understanding and Particle Flow algorithms implementation by comparing the data with Monte Carlo simulation.
