Concept and Test Results for the Fast Beam Condition Monitoring of the CMS Experiment — •Elena Castro2, Wolfgang Lange2, Wolfgang Lohmann2, Martin Ohlerich1,2, and Ringo Schmidt1,2 — 1BTU Cottbus, Kontad-Zuse-Str. 1 — 2DESY, Zeuthen, Platanenallee 6
Several Monitors of the Beam-Halo are installed in the CMS detector to protect the tracking detectors by generating warnings or inducing beam aborts. They also allow post-dump beam diagnostics. The two fast systems, based on single crystal diamonds and scintillators, allow to measure halo particle rates with nanosecond time resolution. The concept of the monitors is described, and test results using a sequencer emulating the LHC bunch structure are presented.
