Cosmic and beam data reprocessing using the ATLAS Production System — •Rodney Walker — LMU, Muenchen, Bayern

We present our experience of the reprocessing of cosmic and single beam data taken by the ATLAS detector during 2008. Data were distributed from CERN to 10 ATLAS Tier-1 centres, where they were reprocessed. Validated outputs were consolidated at CERN and Tier-1 centres, and made available for physics analysis. The reprocessing was done simultaneously in the Tier-1, and selected Tier-2, centres using the ATLAS Production System. Several challenging issues were solved, such as the simultaneous access to ATLAS conditions and calibration data, bulk data prestaging from tape, and data distribution in quasi real time mode.

We also discuss the ATLAS distributed production system running in 70 Universities and Labs in Europe, North America, Asia and Pacific region with automatic task submission, control and aggregation of outputs at Tier-1 centers.
