Cherenkov Telescope Array - an advanced facility for ground-based high-energy gamma-ray astronomy — •Christian Stegmann for the CTA-Consortium — ECAP, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg
Very high-energy gamma-ray astronomy has recently made spectacular progress opening a new window to the Universe. European efforts for a next generation instrument are being bundled in the Cherenkov Telescope Array, CTA, which aims at an order of magnitude improvement in sensitivity and at an increased energy coverage. CTA guarantees a rich physics harvest, including a possible breakthrough in finding signatures for Dark Matter annihilation. CTA is listed among the ESFRI large infrastructures and has been assigned a very high priority in the European astroparticle and astrophysics roadmaps. In the talk an overview of the project and summary of the currently ongoing design study will be given.
