Trigger studies for CTA — •Manuel Paz Arribas — DESY, Platanenallee 6, 15738 Zeuthen

CTA is planned as a next generation ground-based gamma-ray observatory with several tens of telescopes distributed over a surface of several square kilometers. CTA will have a better sensitivity for photon sources (at the mCrab level), a better angular resolution (about a factor of 10 better than present experiments) and will also cover a wider energy spectrum, from several tens of GeV up to 100 TeV. These features imply a big challenge for the design and construcion of the system and particularly in the trigger system, which will have to cope with a high rate of background showers induced by low-energy cosmic rays. The conference contribution will present first results of Monte Carlo trigger studies, in particular the expected trigger rates and data flow fur prototype arrays.
