Diffuse VHE gamma-ray emission with H.E.S.S. — •Daniil Nekrassov, Kathrin Egberts, and Christopher v. Eldik — MPI für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg

Diffuse radiation in the very-high energy (VHE, E > 100GeV) domain offers the potential to track galactic cosmic rays, since the major part of the emission is believed to be produced in hadronic interactions of cosmic rays with the interstellar matter. Thus measuring the properties of such emission can help to constrain the diffusion parameters of cosmic rays in the region where the gamma-rays are produced. Recently the H.E.S.S. experiment, an array of Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes in Namibia, has discovered a region of extended gamma-ray emission in the Galactic Center Ridge. The spectrum of primary cosmic rays is found to deviate from the one measured on Earth, suggesting the primaries to come from a local accelerator, such as the supermassive black hole SgrA* or the supernova remnant SgrA East. Here we present the status of current activities of the H.E.S.S. experiment on the diffuse VHE gamma-ray emission.
