A Search for Neutrino Flares with IceCube-22 and AMANDA — •Sirin Odrowski and Elisa Resconi — Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg

The IceCube neutrino telescope is currently under construction at the south pole. From May 2007 to April 2008, data has been taken with the first 22 strings of the IceCube detector and with its predecessor AMANDA, a smaller and denser array that is by now completely surrounded by IceCube strings and fully integrated into the IceCube data taking system.

In this analysis, we search for neutrinos in coincidence with flares in X-rays or gamma-rays that have been observed for 3C 454.3, S5 0716+71 and 1ES 1959+650 during the year 2007. The data sample used in this analysis has been provided by the IceCube-22 + AMANDA time integrated point source search (see talk by Resconi et al). We use an unbinned approach to analyze the data and special care is taken to characterize the time variability of the background, both intrinsic and imposed by the performance of the detector.

We aim to develop a method that will be suitable for application to other sources in the future as well. A study of long photon light curves, and the method used in order to optimize our search following variations in photon light curves is presented.
