IceCube-22 combined with AMANDA: the first search for neutrino point sources optimized for galactic scenarios — Andreas Gross, •Elisa Resconi, and Yolanda Sestayo — MPIK, Heidelberg, Germany
For galactic sources of high-energy neutrinos, an energy spectrum with an index steeper than -2 is expected. This expectation is motivated by the observed Gamma-ray spectra in our Galaxy. Moreover, the knee at a few PeV in the cosmic ray spectra suggests a break in the relative galactic neutrino spectrum below 100 TeV. We report the results of the first point-source search optimized for Crab-like spectra sources, i.e. lower energies respect the optimal IceCube energy. The sample collected with IceCube 22 strings combined with the AMANDA detector and an innovative analysis strategy provide the best limit ever obtained for neutrino emission from the galactic plane sources.
