Analysis of Radio measurements at the Pierre Auger Observatory — •Nunzia Palmieri — Universitaet Karlsruhe, IEKP
Cosmic Rays are high-energy particles coming from space that
strike the Earth from all directions. In the interactions of energetic
CRs with the atoms of the atmosphere a large number of secondary
particles is generated, creating the so-called Extensive Air Showers
(EAS).
One of the largest experiments for measuring EAS is the
southern Pierre Auger Observatory (PAO) in which two different
detection techniques, the Surface Particle Detectors and the
Fluorescence Detectors are employed. A third technique which can
complement the existing detection methods is the Radio Detection of
pulsed radio signals emitted by EAS.
The application of the Radio Detection technique on large scales is currently being developed in
the framework of the Pierre Auger Observatory. An analysis of Radio
data gathered in the PAO with a prototype antenna array will be
presented. Various aspects are taken into account and, in particular,
a detailed analysis of polarization measurements has been performed.
