In the context of the HADES upgrade, a new monitoring facility for the data acquisition electronics has been developed. The abstract nature of this system allows high adaptability and scalability to match any given requirements. The monitoring signals are buffered in the FPGA chips of the front-end electronics, as hardware near as possible. A timestamp mechanism is additionally used for the absolute chronological alignment of all monitored values. Afterwards, a monitoring server gathers the data and controls the entire operation. The clients, which can access the monitoring system through Ethernet, work decoupled from the hardware part. Therefore, a change in one sub-detector does not affect the others. A visualization of the monitoring signals using the EPICS API has been performed client-side. Besides monitoring, the system can also be used for debugging, detector analysis and statistical conception. Due to its generic design, it is applicable to any FPGA-based system.
