Alignment of a Test Setup for the PANDA GEM-TPC — •Sverre Dorheim and Alexander Schmah — TU München, 85748 Garching
A test setup for the future PANDA TPC prototype has been installed at the electron stretcher ring ELSA in Bonn. To investigate the performance of a GEM-TPC under various conditions like track angle, particle rate, and gas mixture, an independent tracking telescope, consisting of two single-sided silicon strip and two GEM detectors with 2D strip readout, was installed. A precision alignment of all detectors is important to correlate the track segments from the telescope with the TPC tracks. The alignment procedure of the test setup is split into three parts. A photogrammetric alignment method is used to determine the rough positions of all detectors with a precision of about 500 µ m. In a second step the millepede algorithm is used for a straight track alignment of the telescope detectors. In the final step the TPC track segments are correlated with the telescope track segments. The spatial difference between the track segments is used for the TPC alignment, using Minuit as a minimizer. The three steps of alignment will be presented, the performance of the external tracking telescope and correlations between the TPC and telescope tracks will be shown.
