φ meson production at 2A GeV in FOPI — •Krzysztof Piasecki — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Heidelberg, Germany — Institute of Experimental Physics, Univ. of Warsaw, Poland
φ mesons are the rare probes of Heavy Ion collisions at 1-2A GeV. Investigation of their production [1] may help understanding the equilibration mechanism and shed light on elementary processes during the collision. As the Phi-meson lifetime is cτφ = 50 fm, the φ → K+ K− decay channel can substantially obfuscate the signatures of in-medium kaon interactions.
A better insight into phase space of φ mesons is currently possible thanks to the recent installation of the Multi-strip Multi-gap Resistice Plate Chamber (MMRPC) detector in the FOPI spectrometer, resulting in an improvement of the timing resolution of the system to σToF < 100 ps [2].
φ mesons from various systems and collision centralities investigated by the FOPI collaboration will be reviewed.
