Inhomogeneous phases in the QCD phase diagram — Stefano Carignano1, Michael Buballa1, and •Dominik Nickel2 — 1Institut fuer Kernphysik, TU Darmstadt, Germany — 2Univ. Washington, Seattle, USA
We study the phase diagram of QCD by allowing for one-dimensional spatial modulations within NJL-type models, developing our formalism starting from well established analytical results. We find that the first order phase transition line is completely covered by a region, delimited by second order transition lines, where these lower-dimensional inhomogeneous phases are energetically favored.
First we describe our formalism and show our results for the phase diagram, then we look at how the onset of the inhomogeneous phase occurs by comparing density profiles of the system. Finally, we study the effects on the phase diagram of adding vector interactions and the coupling with the Polyakov loop.
