Recent results from the Crystal Ball at MAMI experiment — •Evangeline Downie — Institut fuer Kernphysik, Uni. Mainz
The CB@MAMI 4 pi spectrometer setup at the A2 Tagged Photon Facility in Mainz, Germany was installed in 2003. Since that time, a series of successful experiments have taken place studying a range of topics from the accurate determination of the eta mass to photon asymmetries in threshold pion photoproduction.
The large solid angle coverage of the CB and TAPS spectrometer arrangement in conjunction with the Edinburgh PID detector and two Multi-Wire Proportional Chambers for charged particle identification and tracking are ideally suited to the study of rare processes and multi-photon final states. The coupling of this experimental setup with the new Mainz - Dubna Frozen Spin target will enable a broad range of polarisation observables to be studied.
An overview of the Crystal Ball and Frozen Spin Target experimental setup will be given and a selection of the physics results that are complete and in production, with an emphasis on polarisation observables, will be shown. Future perspectives for the experiment after the successful MAMI and Glasgow Photon Tagger upgrade to 1.5 GeV with first results from running with the new Frozen Spin target will be presented.
