Complete dipole response in 208Pb from high-resolution polarized proton scattering at 0 — •Iryna Poltoratska — Institut für Kernphysik, TU Darmstadt, Germany

By using the proton scattering very close to 0, one can consistently measure dipole modes both above and below the neutron emission threshold. Recent experimental progress and development at RCNP Osaka, Japan [1], allows measurements with intermediate-energy polarized beams at very forward angles combined with high energy resolution of the order ΔE/E ≈8·10−5. The data in 208Pb indicate that at very forward angles 1 states are strongly excited via Coulomb interaction. The extracted B(E1) transition strengths are in a good agreement with data obtained from a nuclear resonance fluorescence experiment [2]. For the separation of E1/M1 contributions two different independent methods are applied, i.e. a multipole decomposition of the angular distribution of the cross sections utilizing DWBA calculations and a model-independent analysis based on polarization transfer observables. Results of the analysis will be presented.
