Untriggered neutrino flare search from point sources with the 40-string IceCube Detector — •Jose Luis Bazo Alba and Elisa Bernardini — DESY, Platanenallee 6, D-15738 Zeuthen
We present a time-dependent search for neutrino flares from point source candidates in the whole sky. If the sources of extragalactic neutrinos are flaring, their detection probability is enhanced by such an analysis compared with a time-integrated one. The analysis uses a time clustering algorithm implemented with an unbinned maximum likelihood method. This algorithm provides a search for significant neutrino flares over time-scales that are not fixed a-priori and that are not triggered by multiwavelength observations, thus it can be applied even in the absence of multiwavelength data. The method is applied to a pre-defined list of bright and variable astrophysical sources using 40-string IceCube data (half of the complete detector) taken in 2008-09 and their results are reported.
