Stochastic UHECR propagation through extra galactic magnetic fields — •Joerg Kulbartz — II. Institut für theoretische Physik, Universität Hamburg
Ultra high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) are charged particles and they are therefore deflected in extra galactic magnetic fields (EGMFs). Unfortunately the strength and structure of the EGMFs is only poorly known, but the very existence of these leads to diffusive behavior of UHECRs if the energies are low and the corresponding interaction length is therefore large. In contrast at the highest energies both the deflections and the interaction length are small, leading to a nearly straight line trajectory of the UHECR. Therefore an intermediate regime exists where UHECR propagation can neither be described in a diffusion approximation nor magnetic fields may be neglected. In the talk we will present numerical studies of deviations from the diffusive regime.
