Measurement of Z→ττ production with early ATLAS data — •Daniele Capriotti, Sandra Horvat, and Hubert Kroha — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, Munich, Germany
At the early stage of data taking with the ATLAS experiment, it will be crucial to understand the detector performance by measurement of theoretically well understood physics processes.
One of the main control processes for the evaluation of the reconstruction performance for τ-jets and missing transverse energy are Z→ττ decays. The selection of these events is, however, challenging due to several orders of magnitude larger QCD background.
We present an analysis of the selection of a high-purity Z→ττ sample where one of the two τ-leptons decays hadronically and the other one leptonically. The selection has been optimized for early ATLAS data taking with an integrated luminosity of 100 pb−1 at a center-of-mass energy of 10 TeV using detailed detector simulation.
