Production of Z → ττ in the ATLAS experiment — •Despoina Evangelakou, Ulla Blumenschein, Katharina Bierwagen, and Arnulf Quadt — II. Phys. Inst. Universität Göttingen
The Z → τ+τ− → lepton − hadron decay is an important signature for the LHC. The study of this process can be useful for efficiency studies of the hadronic tau trigger or for tau identification efficiency. From the reconstruction of the invariant mass of the lepton and the hadronic tau, the scale of missing transverse energy can be determined. Finally, it serves as a preparation for new physics studies, such as H → ττ, since it is the dominant background. In this talk, the possibilities of such studies with the first data collected from the LHC over the first months of operation are presented.
