Studies to measuring the top mass in the all hadronic decay channel at Atlas — •Paul Seidler — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, Föhringer Ring 6, 80805 München
The fully hadronic decay channel of t t pairs takes about 44% of the branching fraction. With an expected ttbar production cross section of about 100pb at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV the now foreseen integrated luminosity of 200 pb−1 in the first year of data taking at the LHC will result in approximately 8800 t t pairs. Our objective is to determine the top quark mass from fully hadronic decays. This decay allows a full reconstruction of all decay particles and thus a direct measurement of the topmass. Nevertheless the cross section of background posed by QCD processes will be 2−3 magnitudes larger than the t t production. We present first results on monte carlo signal studies including combinatorics and background. In particular we try to make use of the LO differential cross section of gg → t t to separate signal from background.
