Electron-ID for Top Quark Physics at the ATLAS Experiment — •Adam Roe, Jörg Meyer, Arnulf Quadt, and Elizaveta Shabalina — II. Physikalisches Institut, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen
Efficient identification of isolated electrons is essential for studies of the top quark. Studies on electron definition and isolation requirements in the context of top physics will be presented here. The goal is to minimize the electron fake rate while keeping the efficiency high for isolated electrons coming from a W decay. Accordingly, an important background to semi-leptonic decays of top quarks is W+jets, making a proper description if its kinematics essential. Monte Carlo simulating this contribution can be created with ALPGEN, done centrally by the ATLAS collaboration, but multiple files with different slices of phase space are created. They must then be combined, a process known as merging. This merging will be presented here as well.
