Due to the presence of two neutrinos in the final state of dileptonic top-pair events, it is customary to require a minimum amount of missing transverse energy in order to enhance the signal-to-background ratio. This is particularly important for the same-flavor final states, ee and µµ, since it suppresses background events stemming from Drell-Yan processes. However the calculation of the missing transverse energy is not trivial, involving calorimeter cells and reconstructed objects. Therefore it is worthwhile to explore alternative handles for an early data measurement by considering complementary information. In particular, simple b-tagging algorithms are considered, that are specifically designed for the early data, and alternatively the scalar sum of the transverse momenta HT. We present a sensitivity study on the top-pair production cross section in the dileptonic channel at √s = 10 TeV and for an assumed luminosity of 200 pb−1.
