Inclusive leptons in ATLAS — •Michael Flowerdew, Oliver Kortner, and Hubert Kroha — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, München, Deutschland
With the commencement of proton-proton collisions at the LHC in 2009, the ATLAS physics program can begin. In this talk, the current status of inclusive electron and muon measurements in the first high energy ATLAS collisions will be presented. The detection and measurement of leptons (here meaning electrons and muons only) is central to many future studies of Standard Model and Beyond the Standard Model physics in ATLAS. Measurements of the inclusive spectra test next-to-leading-log QCD predictions of b-quark production, as well as forming part of the ATLAS detector and physics commissioning and forming a stepping stone to measurements of the W and Z bosons and searches for new physics that will follow in the coming years.
