Jet reconstruction and calibration studies in Vector-Boson-Fusion Higgs searches with ATLAS — •Serena Psoroulas, Jürgen Kroseberg, and Norbert Wermes — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Bonn, Germany
The Vector Boson Fusion production is one of the most important production processes for low-mass Higgs boson searches. VBF events are characterised by two jets at high transverse momentum, called “tagging jets”, widely separated in eta, lying in the forward region of the detector. No other jet activity is predicted between these two jets, and a veto is usually applied on events with central jets to reject the background. The basic requirement to extract such a signature is then a reliable reconstruction of the tagging jets, and a robust central-jet-veto.
The recent developments in jet algorithms and calibration have been applied to Vector Boson Fusion simulated data in ATLAS. The talk shows the results on the performance and robustness of the tagging jet selection and central-jet-veto with respect to different jet reconstruction algorithms and calibration schemes. In both cases, the effects of pileup have also been taken into account.
