In many new physics models the decay of new particles into Standard Model (SM) third generation fermions are predicted to be enhanced. This is the case in certain scenarios of Supersymmetry (SUSY), which is one of the most theoretically promising candidates to solve some of the open questions within the SM. In SUSY at least five Higgs bosons need to be introduced, where the lightest one, h, is similar to the SM Higgs boson with an expected mass in the range of 100-250 GeV.
We developed a generic search strategy for resonances decaying into bb pairs using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. As a template a constrained supersymmetric model, mSUGRA, was used and a search for the h→ bb decay was performed in different scenarios. For high gaugino masses a Higgs boson can be produced in the decay cascades of supersymmetric particles for a significant fraction of the events. Provided a sufficiently large integrated luminosity has been collected, the h→ bb resonance is visible in the invariant mass distribution of all possible b-jet pairs. Inclusive SUSY searches with b-jets in the final states are taken as the starting point of this analysis. The dominant SM background is found to be tt pair production. Moreover, a sizable contribution to the background arises from additional b-jets produced in SUSY processes. The performance of this analysis in different SUSY parameter spaces and for different integrated luminosities will be presented.
