Drift velocity measurement and pressure monitoring in the CMS muon chambers — •Daniel Teyssier, Thomas Hebbeker, Carsten Heidemann, Hans Reithler, and Lars Sonnenschein — III. Physikalisches Institut A, RWTH Aachen
The drift velocity of the CMS muon chambers drift tubes is a key parameter for both muon trigger and reconstruction. Several operational parameters can influence the drift velocity: a change of the absolute pressure, a variation of the gas mixture or a contamination of the chamber gas by air, the temperature and the fringe B field. A dedicated chamber was built in the Institut IIIA at Aachen in order to measure continuously the drift velocity, scanning all muon chambers of the five barrel wheels. The differential pressure is monitored using four sensors per muon chamber, as it shouldn't exceed the safety value. The absolute pressure must stay always slightly above the ambient pressure to avoid the contamination by air entering the detectors. The latest drift velocity and differential pressure monitoring results will be presented.
