Analysis of electromagnetic and hadronic showers in CALICE Analog Hadron Calorimeter prototype (AHCAL) — •Sergey Morozov1,2 and Erika Garutti2 — 1University of Hamburg, 20355 Hamburg — 2DESY, 22607 Hamburg
To evaluate technologies for International Linear Collider (ILC) calorimetry and fulfill the physics program demands, the CALICE collaboration has constructed a highly granular analog hadron calorimeter prototype (AHCAL) based on scintillator tiles with individual silicon photo-multiplier (SiPM) read out. This detector has been tested extensively in particle beams at DESY, CERN and Fermilab. The imaging capabilities of this detector provide 3D information of hadronic showers with unprecedented resolution and will thus help to constrain hadronic shower models in simulation codes. The high granularity also opens up the possibility for improved energy resolution achieved with energy weighting or the Particle Flow reconstruction (PFA) algorithms. Longitudinal and transverse shower profiles of hadronic events was compared to simulations with a variety of different models. The analysis of electromagnetic showers in AHCAL will be presented to demonstrate the detector understanding and calibration validation as well as improving the linearity of energy reconstruction.
