The CASTOR calorimeter is a forward ( −6.6 < η < −5.2 ) Čerenkov quartz-tungsten sampling calorimeter for the CMS experiment at the LHC. The calorimeter can be used to study physics topics like low-x parton dynamics, minimum bias event structure, diffraction, cosmic ray related physics in proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions. Studies for jet energy corrections from dijet balance and calibration using Z jet resonances are presented. First results from early data taken in 2009 are presented.
