Studies for the Beam Calorimeter of an ILC Detector — •Olga Novgorodova on behalf of FCAL — BTU Cottbus, Konrad-Zuse-Str. 1 — DESY, Zeuthen, Platanenalle 6
For the very forward region of a detector at a future e+e- collider special calorimeters are needed for a precise and fast luminosity measurement and to veto high energy electrons to suppress background in new particle searches. The calorimeter at lowest polar angles, BeamCal, has to survive doses of several MGy per year caused by beamstrahlung. These depositions depend on the beam-parameters and drop with growing polar angle. Simulations are done for a diamond-tungsten sandwich calorimeter using the GEANT4 program. An algorithm for the reconstruction of electron showers is developed and the efficiency to detect single high energy electrons on top of the widely spread beamstrahlung depositions is determined as a function of the sensor segmentation. In addition two beam parameter sets just under discussion for the ILC (nominal parameters and SB-2009 beam parameters) are compared.
