Monitoring Level-1 Jet trigger efficiencies for ATLAS calorimeter — •Sahill Poddar — Kirchhoff Institute for Physics — University of Heidelberg
Since the bunch crossing rate at LHC is designed to be 40MHz, triggers form an important part of DAQ. The ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter trigger brings this rate down to 100kHz before the HLT runs on the acquired data. The LHC being rich in jet physics implies that monitoring the Level-1 jet trigger efficiencies forms a vital component of understanding detector response. A study of these efficiencies is presented here using various techniques. Efficiencies using the tag-n-probe method, bootstrapping method and real efficiencies have been studied both globally for the calorimeter and as a function of η-φ.The study reveals that the above mentioned approach provides a good handle on detecting possible malfunctioning parts of the calorimeter as far as jet triggering is concerned. The analysis has now been implemented as part of ATHENA, the ATLAS offline software.
