An Alternative Approach of Estimating Level1 Muon Trigger Efficiencies at ATLAS — •Peter Steinbach, Anja Vest, and Wolfgang Mader — Institut für Kern- und Teilchenphysik, TU Dresden, Dresden
The knowledge and understanding of the muon trigger performance is a
key ingredient for many physics measurement with first data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider.
Therefore, offline monitoring and efficiency determination of all Level-1 Muon Triggers are important
to ensure reliable and well understood results for measurements of
Standard Model as well as Beyond Standard Model processes involving particles decaying into
muons.
A study is presented to estimate Level-1 muon trigger
efficiencies and occupancies using Inner Detector tracks. The latter are
extrapolated to the Muon Spectrometer where they are matched to hits in the RPC detectors, which are used to trigger muons in ATLAS. Using this information, a comparison between
trigger decision input and trigger response in offline data is performed. The efficiency of the
Level-1 trigger is then estimated. We present first results of this technique,
analysing cosmic data recorded in 2008 and 2009 by the ATLAS experiment.
