Computing in ATLAS is organized in so-called clouds lead by a Tier-1 centre. For the "DECH" cloud covering Germany, Poland, the Czech republic, Austria and Switzerland (without CERN) this is the GridKa computing centre at the Steinbuch Centre for Computing (FZK/KIT) in Karlsruhe. The Tier-1 provides crucial services for data management and production, which have been developed and extensively tested during the last years. After the start of the LHC, these tools have to prove their reliability. The talk present the operation of the Tier-1 centre from the ATLAS point of view with an emphasis on the performance of and the experience gained from distributing and processing the first ATLAS data. Also an overview of the current status and progress in the other areas will be given.
