Beam Diagnostics for Position and Profile Measurement at FAIR — •Marcus Schwickert, Peter Forck, Piotr Kowina, Tino Giacomini, and Frank Becker — GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH, Darmstadt, Germany
Presently the FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) accelerator complex is designed and projected at GSI. The central machine SIS100 has several unique features like acceleration of high intensity beams, operation close to the space charge limit and extreme UHV conditions of the cryogenic regions. This contribution describes recent developments to fulfil the challenging demands on beam diagnostic instruments and reports on present prototype studies. As examples for the SIS100 diagnostics the cryogenic beam position monitors and the ionization profile monitor are presented. Additionally, the beam induced fluorescence monitors are discussed as important devices for profile measurement in the high energy beam transport section of FAIR, as well as for high current operation of the existing UNILAC.
