The MAGIC view of Active Galactic Nuclei in gamma-rays — •Stefan Rügamer — Institut für Theoretische Physik und Astrophysik, Universität Würzburg, Germany
The investigation of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) is one of the key science projects of the MAGIC Collaboration, operating two 17m diameter Cherenkov telescopes. Within the collimated, relativistically moving jets of AGNs very high energy gamma-ray radiation up to the TeV energy regime is produced, whose physical origin, despite several years of observation, is still under debate.
In this talk the MAGIC view on AGNs will be presented, covering recent multi-wavelength efforts, long-term observations as well as detailed studies of potential TeV emitters, and their physical implications. Amongst them the recently discovered gamma-ray sources PKS 1424+240 and S5 0716+714 along with the coordinated observations of M87 in 2007 and 2008 will be discussed.
