Melting in small size Yukawa clusters — •Hauke Thomsen, Jens Böning, and Michael Bonitz — Institut für Theoretische Physik und Astrophysik, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, D-24098 Kiel, Germany
We investigate a confined system with a small number (around 10 to 100) of classical particles. The interaction between the particles is screened and is described by a Yukawa potential. The trapped particles form clusters (Yukawa balls). To detect melting of those clusters we calculate the specific heat and Lindemann-type parameters [1] by Monte Carlo simulations [2]. To overcome longtime correlation we use the technique of parallel tempering. A general trend is that for fixed particle number the critical temperature decreases with increasing screening.
