Yb:YAG thin disk laser system with high average and high peak power — •Johannes Tümmler, Robert Jung, Ingo Will, Horst Schönnagel, and Wolfgang Sandner — Max Born Institute, Berlin, Germany
We will report on our latest results in the development of an Yb:YAG thin disk CPA laser system. It consists of an Yb:KGW front end, a grating stretcher and compressor, and several amplifier stages based on Yb:YAG thin disk technology. In the first state, the laser system is designed to deliver ps pulses on the order of about < 1 J with a repetition rate of 100 Hz. The first amplifier of this chain is a regenerative amplifier. Recent results of this single amplifier showed output parameters of more than 300 mJ at a repetition rate of 150 Hz, which is 45 W average power. Several concepts of multipass amplifiers are currently under investigation for the subsequent amplifier stages.
Based on the experiences with the different amplifier designs, in a further step it is planned to explore the limits of thin disk technology concerning pulse energy as well as repetition rate. Envisioned is a multi Joule laser system working at a repetition rate of 200 Hz.
