Laser application for nanophotonics and metamaterials — •Carsten Reinhardt, Wei Cheng, Andrey B. Evlyukhin, Arseniy I. Kuznetsov, Andreas Seidel, and Boris N. Chichkov — Laser Zentrum Hannover, Hollerithallee 8, D30419 Hannover
We demonstrate results on femtosecond laser based fabrication of nano- and micro-scale structures, finding applications in nanophotonics, e.g. plasmonic waveguides, and metamaterials. Dielectric-loaded waveguides for surface plasmon polaritons or arrays of split-ring resonators are fabricated by two-photon polymerization of different polymers, providing the possibility for selective metallization. The laser induced transfer allows realizing arbitrary 2D and 3D arrangements of metallic nanospheres with adjustable diameters of 300 nm to 1600 nm, as well as their combination with 3D polymeric structures. Results on the characterization of plasmonic waveguides and the scattering properties of metallic nanosheres, with respect to the realization of novel metamaterials, using leakage radiation microscopy [1,2] will be presented.
