We investigate the Jahn-Teller transition at TJT = 9K in the CMR system FeCr2S4 by THz and IR spectroscopy. Below TJT we observe the appearance of new phonon modes in the far-infrared region and new excitations in the THz regime. We attribute the latter to a splitting of the Fe2+ ground state due to the transition from a dynamic to a static Jahn-Teller distortion.
